About Robert
Robert Tsai earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Purdue University in 2010 and went on to receive his J.D. from Baylor Law School in 2014. He moved from Midwestern campus life to Texas courtrooms in a few short years. Those early academic choices set the stage for a career centered on family law within the state.
After law school he joined Engvall Lopez, LLP as an associate in 2014. The work there gave him steady exposure to contested divorces and custody disputes. In 2016 he took a position as a senior associate at Walters Gilbreath, PLLC, where he expanded his courtroom experience and handled a range of family law matters. Colleagues recall a methodical approach to case preparation and a willingness to manage complex financial issues that arise in domestic relations cases.
In 2022 he became the managing lawyer of the Law Office of Robert Tsai, PLLC. Running his own practice required a different set of skills. He now handles client intake, case strategy, and day-to-day operations while continuing to represent clients in litigation and negotiations. The move into management has changed how he allocates time, but not the day-to-day work of advising families.
Tsai is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. That certification is a professional milestone that marks a lawyer who has met particular study, experience and peer-review standards in family law. For clients and other lawyers, it signals a clear area of professional concentration within the Texas legal system.
His work in the legal community has included service in local professional organizations. He has been involved with the Houston Young Lawyers Association for several years and has served as a committee chair since 2016. Earlier, from 2014 to 2017, he participated in the Houston Young Lawyers Association’s American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division activities. Those roles have kept him connected to younger practitioners and to local bar events.
Tsai’s practice handles the spectrum of family law issues commonly seen in Texas: divorce, child custody and visitation, property division, spousal support, and post-judgment enforcement or modification matters. He represents clients at mediation, in contested hearings, and at trial when necessary. Licensed to practice in Texas, he divides his time between client work and running his firm. He currently represents clients in family law matters.
