About Robert

Robert Thomson began his professional life on a very different stage. He earned a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2000 and later decided to pursue law. He earned a law degree from South Texas College of Law before moving into private practice. That combination of disciplined performance training and legal education informs how he approaches work: deliberate, exacting and attuned to detail.

He entered private practice and by 2015 was listed as a member lawyer at Thomson Law Office, PLLC. That role established him in day-to-day client work and case management. Over the years he has taken on expanded responsibilities and new roles. In 2023 he served as Of Counsel at Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC, and that same year is recorded as a Senior Lawyer at Kearney, McWilliams & Davis, PLLC. Those positions reflect a career that has moved between hands-on client representation and advisory duties for firms of different sizes.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and practical in his approach. He has handled matters typical of private practice attorneys, supporting both individual and business clients. His work has included drafting pleadings, advising on procedural matters and managing files through to resolution. He brings to each file an attention to organization and an eye for timing, traits that can matter as much as courtroom technique when cases move through busy dockets.

Thomson’s background in music occasionally surfaces in how he talks about law. He has compared preparing for hearings to preparing for performances: the same preparation, the same attention to pacing and the same need to listen closely. That analogy resonates with clients who value clarity and steady preparation over flourish.

In recent years his practice has involved collaborations across firms. His role as Of Counsel at Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC placed him in a position to advise on matters alongside other attorneys, while his appearance as Senior Lawyer at Kearney, McWilliams & Davis, PLLC involved more direct leadership within litigation teams. He continues to maintain professional ties in Texas and to practice in that jurisdiction.

As of 2026 he is associated with Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC. His current practice includes client counseling and casework for matters brought in Texas courts and before administrative bodies.
