About Robert

Robert Tharp is an Atlanta-educated lawyer who began his legal journey at Emory. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Emory University in 1989 and returned to the same school for his J.D., awarded in 1993. Those years shaped a practical approach to the law and a familiarity with Georgia’s legal institutions.

After law school, Tharp entered private practice. In 1996 he opened the Tharp Law Office as owner. That early step into solo practice gave him long-term exposure to client work and courtroom procedure. He later joined Meriwether & Tharp, LLC as a partner, where he continues to work alongside other attorneys at the firm.

Tharp has maintained an active presence in Georgia’s bar and court systems for decades. He has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1996. He also holds memberships that allow him to appear before the Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia and before the United States District Courts for the Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia. Those admissions reflect a practice that spans trial and appellate work in both state and federal settings.

Colleagues describe him as steady and methodical in the courtroom. He has handled matters that required appearances at multiple levels of the state and federal systems. His background in political science and the training at Emory Law have informed a methodical case preparation style. He approaches factual development and legal research with attention to detail.

Clients who work with Tharp can expect a lawyer familiar with Georgia procedure and the practical demands of litigation calendars. He has experience managing cases from initial filings through motions and, where necessary, appeals. His office experience includes the operational side of running a practice, gained from his years as the owner of Tharp Law Office and later as a partner at Meriwether & Tharp.

In court, Tharp presents arguments grounded in statute and precedent. He represents clients in both state and federal venues and is comfortable navigating the differing rules those tribunals impose. Outside the courtroom he continues to participate in professional associations tied to the Georgia legal community.

He currently practices in Georgia state and federal courts.
