About Robert R.

Robert R. Sachs has an academic background that spans the humanities, law and engineering. He earned a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego in 1987, where he studied philosophy and psychology. He took his legal training at Yale Law School and received his J.D. in 1990. Later he returned to technical study and completed an M.S. in software engineering at National University in 1996.

Those credentials inform his work. He is admitted to practice in California and has practiced at Fenwick & West LLP. His path combines formal legal education with graduate-level training in software development, a combination that shapes how he approaches client matters and legal problems that touch on technology.

Colleagues describe him as pragmatic and detail-oriented in litigation and transactional settings. He has handled matters that require translating technical concepts into clear legal arguments and documents. That ability can play out in a variety of contexts: drafting agreements, addressing regulatory questions, or handling disputes where software and systems are part of the factual picture.

Sachs’s dual training also makes him a resource for teams that need someone who understands both code and contract language. He moves between technical descriptions and legal analysis without losing precision. That skill matters in negotiations and in court, where a careful explanation of how a system works can affect outcomes.

Outside casework he has maintained ties to both legal and technical communities. His academic record suggests an interest in how law and technology intersect, and that interest appears in the types of matters he accepts and the clients he advises. He balances a lawyer’s attention to precedent and procedure with the practical concerns of engineers and product teams.

He currently practices at Fenwick & West LLP, where his work centers on legal issues connected to software and technology.
