About Robert
Robert Milla trained as an English scholar before turning to the law. He earned a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan in 1998 and completed an M.A. at the University of Auckland in 2002. He returned to the United States for legal studies and received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2006.
After law school, Milla built a practice that spans trial and appellate work in federal courts. He is admitted to the Illinois bar and has appearances before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions reflect a career that has included both litigation and administrative proceedings.
Milla established his own practice as owner-lawyer of Milla Law, LLC. He also maintains offices listed under Milla & Associates, LLC. He has handled matters in immigration courts and federal courts, and he has represented clients in administrative hearings and appeals. His membership in the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2006 marks a long-standing involvement in immigration matters. He is also a member of the Asian American Bar Association since 2006 and joined the Filipino American Lawyers Association in 2013.
Colleagues describe Milla as methodical in preparing cases and practical in courtroom settings. He is comfortable drafting appellate briefs and handling hearings before immigration judges, and he has worked on matters that require familiarity with both procedural and substantive federal law. He combines his academic background in English with legal practice, which he says assists in legal writing and brief preparation.
Outside the courtroom he participates in bar and community groups that relate to his practice areas. His continuous membership in national and local bar organizations indicates ongoing engagement with professional developments and policy discussions affecting immigration and federal litigation.
Milla’s practice is based in Illinois, where he maintains federal admissions and represents clients in immigration and related federal matters. He currently practices immigration and related federal litigation at Milla Law, LLC.
