About Robert L.
Robert L. Herskovits completed his undergraduate studies at Syracuse University in 1993 and earned his law degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1996. He entered the legal profession after law school and built a practice centered on securities and financial services law. His education set the stage for a career that spans trial work, arbitration, and appellate practice.
Early in his career he joined private practice and later became a partner at Gusrae, Kaplan, Bruno & Nusbaum PLLC in 2006. He moved into firm leadership in 2011 when he became managing member of Herskovits PLLC. Those roles placed him on both the litigation and management sides of practice. He has handled matters in state and federal forums and worked on cases that required interaction with regulators and arbitration panels.
Herskovits is admitted to practice in New York and before several federal courts and tribunals. His admissions include the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the Eastern District of New York, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He also serves as a certified arbitrator, credentialed by FINRA, the American Arbitration Association, and the National Futures Association. Those credentials inform much of his day-to-day work and his appearances before arbitration panels.
His professional affiliations reflect a focus on securities and bar governance. He holds current memberships in the American Bar Association and the New York County Lawyers Association. He has been active with the New York City Bar Association since 2011. From 2011 to 2014 he served as co-chair of the Securities and Exchanges Committee of the New York County Lawyers Association, a position that involved organizing programming and contributing to committee deliberations on regulatory and market practice topics.
Clients and colleagues describe him as methodical and straightforward in his approach to dispute resolution. He has managed both litigation dockets and arbitration matters, often handling case preparation, witness work, and motion practice. His practice has included appellate filings when matters required review beyond trial or arbitration rulings.
Today he leads Herskovits PLLC, where he continues to handle securities disputes, regulatory issues, and arbitration cases. He concentrates his practice on securities arbitration and related litigation.
