About Robert Henry
Robert Henry Muriel built a foundation in both law and numbers. He earned a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1993 after completing dual bachelor’s degrees in finance (1987) and accounting (1988) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. That combination of legal training and financial background shaped the early arc of his career.
He began his legal work in the Illinois judiciary, serving as a law clerk to Justice Allen Hartman at the Appellate Court of Illinois in 1994. He moved into private practice a few years later, joining Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP as an associate in 1996. In 2000 he advanced to a senior associate role at Ungaretti & Harris, LLC. Those years in established Chicago firms gave him exposure to litigation and complex commercial matters.
In the early 2000s Muriel shifted toward firm leadership. He became a managing member of Nery & Muriel, LLC in 2003 and later took on the same role at Muriel Law Offices, LLC in 2005. Those moves represent a steady transition from practice inside larger firms to guiding smaller, client-facing operations. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Muriel’s professional life includes long-standing ties to the legal community. He has been active on the Loyola University Chicago School of Law Alumni Board of Governors since 2000. He served on the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois from 1999 to 2003 and was the organization’s president from 2001 to 2002. Outside legal organizations, he serves on the Board of Directors for Almost Home Kids, a role he holds currently.
Colleagues describe his path as one that blends courtroom experience and firm management. The appellate clerkship early in his career provided a close look at written opinion drafting and appellate procedure. Subsequent roles in private firms exposed him to trial practice and the mechanics of representing business clients. Leading two different firms required shifts in day-to-day work, balancing case strategy, client relations, and administrative responsibilities.
He continues to practice in the Chicago area and remains engaged in alumni and civic boards. His practice is based at Muriel Law Offices, LLC, where he handles business and commercial litigation matters in Illinois and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
