About Robert Franklin
Robert Franklin Powers earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida in 2005. He went on to complete his Juris Doctor at Michigan State University College of Law. While at Michigan State, he also completed certifications in Corporate Law and in Communications and Intellectual Property Law.
Those certifications inform his approach to practice. The corporate law coursework covered transactional drafting, governance and regulatory matters. The communications and intellectual property studies examined copyright, trademark, licensing and the regulatory frameworks that affect media and telecommunications. He blends business training and legal education in the way he evaluates client problems.
Powers serves as managing partner of McClanahan Powers, PLLC. In that role he oversees firm operations and leads client matters. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and in Virginia, and he splits his professional time between casework, transactional representation and firm management.
His work centers on corporate law, communications and intellectual property. He handles corporate transactions and advises on governance and compliance. He negotiates and drafts licensing agreements and other IP-related contracts. He also addresses regulatory and transactional issues that affect broadcasters, digital media companies and other communications businesses.
Powers maintains memberships in several bar organizations. He is a member of the Fairfax Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, the Alexandria Bar Association and the American Bar Association. These memberships give him access to local and national legal resources and forums where practitioners exchange developments in corporate and IP law.
Colleagues describe Powers as steady in the courtroom and precise in the conference room. He has combined legal training and business study into a practice that serves clients who face commercial, intellectual property and communications challenges. He is based at McClanahan Powers, PLLC and practices corporate, communications and intellectual property law.
