About Robert
Robert Farris-Olsen built his academic foundation around environmental study and the law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Chemistry from Whitman College in 2006. He went on to the University of Montana School of Law, where he completed his J.D. in 2011 and studied Environmental and Natural Resources Law.
The early part of his legal career gave him exposure to both appellate work and public interest practice. In 2011 he served as a law clerk to the Montana Supreme Court, an experience that offered close work on legal opinion drafting and the mechanics of state-level appellate procedure. The following year he joined the Montana Legal Services Association as a staff lawyer in its Foreclosure Assistance Program, representing homeowners and advising clients facing housing instability.
In 2013 he entered private practice as an associate at Morrison, Sherwood, Wilson & Deola PLLP. That move brought him into a firm setting where he could apply courtroom experience and the practical skills developed in public-interest work. He has maintained his membership in the Montana Trial Lawyers Association since 2013, remaining engaged with a professional community focused on litigation practice and related developments in state law.
Colleagues describe Farris-Olsen as methodical in courtroom preparation and measured in client counsel. His background combines environmental training and hands-on foreclosure assistance, a mix that informs how he approaches civil disputes and regulatory issues. He brings appellate experience to trials and hearings, favoring clear legal arguments and attention to procedural detail.
He has handled matters that touch on environmental and natural resource topics, and he has worked on cases involving housing and consumer protections through his foreclosure program work. His practice has also involved traditional litigation responsibilities typical of an associate litigating in state courts.
Today he practices at Morrison, Sherwood, Wilson & Deola PLLP, where his work centers on litigation that draws on his environmental law education and his experience representing clients in housing-related matters.
