About Robert DeRose

Robert DeRose II is the Managing Partner and practices in the Complex Litigation Division of Barkan Meizlish DeRose Wentz McInerney Peifer, LLP in Columbus, Ohio. He handles wage and hour/overtime issues, consumer protection issues, election/political issues, and union-side labor matters. A native of Western Pennsylvania, Mr. DeRose graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in 1988 with a degree in Economics. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1991. He was active in workers' rights issues. Mr. DeRose has been admitted to practice before several courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ohio Supreme Court, and the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. He is also admitted to various U.S. District Courts and Courts of Appeals, including the Sixth, Tenth, and Fourth Circuits. Throughout his career, Mr. DeRose has been involved in several significant cases. In 2005, he secured a settlement for 10,000 current and former employees of Lowe's in Ohio and Pennsylvania concerning an overtime issue. He has argued before the Ohio Supreme Court and multiple federal Courts of Appeals, including the Sixth, Tenth, and Seventh Circuits. He has also appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. DeRose has been recognized for his contributions to the legal field. He has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America since 2011 and a Top 100 Trial Lawyer in Ohio since 2007. He served as the former president of the Workers Injury Law and Advocacy Group (WILG), a national organization committed to representing workers and their families. He served on the National Finance Council and the AAJ Leaders Forum. Mr. DeRose has contributed to legal education as well. He was an adjunct faculty member at Capital University Law School's Graduate Program and has been a guest lecturer at the Ohio State University Fisher College of Business and the University of Dayton School of Law. He co-authored the 2005-2006 Ohio Workers' Compensation Law, a practice guide published by the West Group. Is an editing author of the American Bar Association's treatise, The Fair Labor Standards Act. Mr. DeRose continues to represent victims of wage theft throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, and the nation at Barkan Meizlish DeRose Wentz McInerney Peifer, LLP. He is married to Amy, and they have two children: a son, Nick, who is serving as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. A daughter, Maddie, who plans to study physics at Ohio State University. Mr. DeRose has been involved in the Westerville, Ohio community, where he coached and served on the board of the Junior Football League of Westerville and was a member of the Genoa Township Board of Zoning Appeals.
