About Robbin Trowbridge

Robbin Trowbridge Benko took an unconventional path into law. She studied human behavior at Purdue University North Central, earning a B.A. in psychology and sociology. She then completed her legal training at Valparaiso University School of Law, receiving a J.D. in 2004. Those academic choices framed a career that crosses criminal justice, guardianship and policy work.

Her first legal role came as a clerk for Judge Julia Jent in 2001. That early exposure to courtroom procedure and judicial decision-making set the tone for the next phase of her work. In 2002 she joined a prosecuting lawyer’s office, gaining hands-on experience in the public-sector side of criminal practice. She shifted into mediation work in 2003 at the Valparaiso Legal Clinic, where she conducted settlements and helped parties resolve disputes outside the courtroom.

Benko added another layer to her practice by becoming a licensed guardian ad litem. That role required court appearances, investigations and reports on behalf of minors and vulnerable adults. The combination of prosecutorial experience, mediation training and guardian work gave her a broad view of how cases move from investigation to resolution.

On the policy front, she has authored and lobbied for reform statutes related to violent offenders who claim legal insanity. That effort involved drafting legislative language and presenting those ideas to Nevada legislators. The project tied together her interests in criminal law, mental health and statutory reform, and it required translating clinical and legal concepts into workable policy proposals.

In 2012 she launched her own practice, operating under the Law Office of Robbin Trowbridge Benko. Running a solo office meant managing client intake, case strategy and the everyday business of a law firm. It also allowed her to select matters that match her background: criminal matters, guardianship proceedings and alternative dispute resolution.

Colleagues and clients know her for a direct approach in court and a willingness to handle the ancillary work that many practices pass off to others. She remains active in legal and civic circles and maintains current professional memberships. She practices from the Law Office of Robbin Benko, where her work centers on criminal law, guardianship matters and mediation.
