About Rick

Rick Harrison attended Lake Highlands High School, graduating with honors in 1980. He earned a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984 and a J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 1988. That academic path put him on a steady course into courtroom practice and public service.

He began his career in prosecution. Harrison served as a drug prosecutor in the Dallas County district attorney’s office. That work put him inside the system that handles complex narcotics matters and gave him extensive trial experience. He prosecuted cases, handled hearings and worked regularly with law enforcement on investigations.

He later took on county-level leadership when he served as a district lawyer of Kaufman County. In that role he carried administrative duties alongside courtroom responsibilities. The position required managing caseloads, coordinating with other county officials and making decisions on which matters to bring before juries.

Harrison has also played an active role in the professional bar community. He served as president of the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, a post that involved organizing fellow attorneys and guiding the group’s activities. He is a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and remains tied to the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Those connections reflect ongoing engagement with peers and with developments in criminal law practice across the state.

His career spans both sides of criminal law. Time as a prosecutor and as an association leader gives him a perspective on courtroom strategy, case preparation and practical approaches to resolving criminal matters. He has experience in trials, evidentiary hearings and negotiations that shape plea and sentencing outcomes.

Colleagues describe Harrison as experienced in handling criminal cases across jurisdictions in Texas. He maintains ties to the legal communities where he has worked and continues to participate in association activities. He has practiced law in Texas for decades and remains active in casework and professional affairs.

Harrison’s practice remains based in Texas and centers on criminal matters.
