About Richard T Middleton
Richard T Middleton IV has a layered academic background that informs his work in court. He completed a B.A. at Xavier University of Louisiana, earned a Ph.D. at the University of Missouri–Columbia, and later received a J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law. Those three degrees shape how he approaches evidence, procedure and client issues. He draws on research training as much as legal training when preparing a file.
His career spans both academic study and courtroom practice. After law school he moved into litigation and client representation. He has developed experience in preparing pleadings, researching complex legal questions, and arguing motions. The combination of doctoral-level analysis and legal practice gives him a methodical way of breaking down problems and explaining options to clients.
He is admitted to practice in the State of Missouri and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. He is also authorized to represent clients before the Executive Office for Immigration Review, which means he handles matters in immigration court when appropriate. Those admissions allow him to work on matters that begin in state courts, proceed in federal court, or arise in immigration proceedings.
In day-to-day practice he prepares court filings, represents clients at hearings, and handles procedural matters that keep cases moving. He spends time drafting motions and responses, assembling evidence, and coordinating with clients to meet deadlines. His background in research often shows up in written briefs and in the way he frames legal issues for judges and opposing counsel.
He works as a lawyer at Law. In that role he represents individuals and organizations across a range of disputes that touch state, federal and immigration systems. He handles the procedural and substantive work that litigation requires, from initial intake through hearing preparation.
Outside the courtroom he maintains ties to the academic world through ongoing reading and study. That practice of continuous learning informs case strategy and keeps him attuned to developments in the law. His current practice focuses on litigation in Missouri courts and immigration proceedings before EOIR.
