About Richard Joseph Stahl
Richard Joseph Stahl III took a straightforward path into law. He earned a B.S. in Business Management from Ohio Northern University in 1999 and returned to the same campus for his J.D., which he completed in 2003. The academic record laid a clear foundation for courtroom work and for coaching young people in trial skills.
His early legal experience is varied. In 2006 he held several roles: he worked as a health information coordinator for Litigation Management, Inc., coached mock trial teams at both Ohio Northern University and Case Western Reserve University, and began operating under his own name as a lawyer. The following year he joined the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office as an assistant prosecuting lawyer, gaining prosecutorial experience in a large county office.
Stahl has kept an active hand in mock trial programs. He served as a coach in 2006 and later took on roles tied to the American Mock Trial Association, including a board role beginning in 2010. Those activities point to a continued interest in trial practice and in training students and young attorneys in courtroom procedure.
From 2009 onward his work shifted toward family and juvenile court assignments. He serves as a guardian ad litem in Cuyahoga, Medina and Lorain County domestic relations courts. Since 2012 he has been a volunteer magistrate for the Strongsville Juvenile Diversion Program. These appointments have led to recurring court work in domestic relations and juvenile matters across several Ohio counties.
Stahl holds certifications in legal research platforms and in court appointment work. He is certified in LexisNexis Mastery and LexisNexis Competency, has Westlaw Advanced Research training, and is authorized as a guardian ad litem by the State of Ohio. He is admitted to practice in Ohio and before the Federal Circuit. Professional memberships include the Cleveland Metro Bar Association, Medina and Lorain county bar associations, Parma Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He has also been active in alumni affairs, serving as vice president of the Ohio Northern Alumni Club, Cleveland Chapter, and holds a place on the Woodside Crossing Board of Directors.
Today he maintains a private practice under the Law Office of Richard J. Stahl III and continues to accept guardian ad litem appointments and juvenile diversion magistrate work, handling domestic relations and juvenile court matters in Ohio.
