Richard Jay Simons is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1976 and holds bar number 72676. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Simons is a partner at Furtado Jaspovice and Simons ALC, a law firm located in Castro Valley, California. He has been practicing law for over 40 years, serving clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Mr. Simons earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1976. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving an A.B. degree in History in 1973. During his time at UC Berkeley, he was a member of the Cal Ice Hockey team.
Mr. Simons concentrates his practice in the areas of medical malpractice, personal injury, and products liability. He represents individuals in matters involving workplace injuries, defective products, and medical negligence. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Simons has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Alameda, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in Oakland for five years.
Mr. Simons is an active member of the Consumer Attorneys of California, having served as its president in 1998. He is also a member of the Alameda County Bar Association. He has been recognized for his contributions to the legal community, including being named "Attorney of the Year" in 2005 by California Lawyer magazine. Mr. Simons is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of the San Francisco Bay Area effectively.
