It was here that he successfully tried his first case involving an elevator accident, marking a significant milestone in his legal journey. In 1988, Richard Kaufman co-founded Seiden & Kaufman with Steven J. Seiden, creating a firm that would focus on advocating for victims of negligence and injury. Under his leadership, the firm has grown to serve clients throughout the metropolitan New York area, with offices in Carle Place and New York City.
Kaufman is admitted to practice in all New York State Courts and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. This lets the attorney represent clients in many legal matters. Kaufman is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. His involvement in these associations reflects his dedication to staying informed about developments in personal injury law and advocating for the rights of injured individuals. Additionally, he is a member of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers and the New York State Bar Association.
Beyond his legal practice, Kaufman has made significant contributions to his community. He served as President of the Long Island Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, where he played a pivotal role in raising over $1 million for blood-related cancer patients. His philanthropic efforts extend to supporting the Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers Widows and Orphans Fund, as well as the Multiple Sclerosis Society of America. Through these initiatives, Kaufman demonstrates a commitment to making a positive impact both in and out of the courtroom.
