About Richard Anthony Rice

Richard Anthony Rice Jr. earned his law degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1994 after completing undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia in 1990. He moved from academe into public service and private practice at a time when federal litigation and government work were expanding across multiple jurisdictions. Those formative years set the pattern for a career that has crossed military service, federal government roles and large law firm practice.

Rice spent part of his early career in the U.S. Navy. He later joined the Department of Justice and served in a United States Attorney’s Office, where he worked on matters conducted at the federal level. After his time in government, he transitioned to private practice at major national firms including Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Hunton & Williams LLP. Those positions gave him exposure to complex litigation and the experience of representing both government interests and private clients in high-stakes disputes.

Across those settings Rice developed experience in litigation and in matters that intersect with federal agencies. He has practiced in multiple jurisdictions, holding licenses in Virginia, Georgia and the District of Columbia. That multi-jurisdictional licensing reflects a career that has required moving between trial work, appellate matters and advice on regulatory or investigatory issues stemming from federal and state law.

In more recent years Rice established his own practice, The Rice Law Office, LLC. At his firm he handles a range of litigation-related work and provides legal counsel to clients who need representation in federal and state forums. The office draws on his prior roles in government and in large firms, combining courtroom experience with knowledge of prosecutorial and regulatory processes.

Colleagues and clients describe Rice as measured and thorough in court settings. He favors direct argument and careful preparation. Outside the courtroom he has been involved in the procedural aspects of cases and in coordinating multi-jurisdictional strategies. He continues to maintain an active practice through The Rice Law Office, LLC, serving clients in matters that arise under federal and state law.
