About Reno
Reno Fernandez holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley (2004) and earned his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law (2007). Those formative years set a foundation in analytical reasoning and legal practice. He pursued bankruptcy law early in his career and carried those classroom lessons into court and clinic work.
After law school, Fernandez began practicing in the Bay Area. In 2008 he is listed as a lawyer at Macdonald Fernandez LLP, where he gained hands-on experience in consumer and business bankruptcy matters. He later joined Binder Malter Harris & Rome-Banks LLP, taking a seat among litigators handling complex insolvency cases and contested matters.
Fernandez is licensed in California and is admitted to practice before the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. The California State Bar Board of Certification has recognized him as a Certified Specialist in Bankruptcy Law, a credential that signals a defined depth of experience in that field rather than a promotional label.
Beyond firm work, Fernandez has remained active in professional and court-related circles. He has been a member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges Next Generation Program since 2013 and has served on the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California Bar Rules Advisory Group since 2014. Those roles have involved discussion of procedural rules and courtroom practices among peers and judges.
Locally, Fernandez has ties to the Bar Association of San Francisco and regional bankruptcy organizations. He has been involved with the Bay Area Bankruptcy Forum and the BASF Barrister’s Club, where he has served on the board as secretary. Early in his practice he volunteered for the BASF Consumer Debt Clinic from 2009 to 2010, work that brought him into direct contact with debtors seeking relief through the bankruptcy system.
Over the past decade Fernandez’s work has spanned business reorganizations, creditor representation, and consumer bankruptcy defense. He has handled contested motions, adversary proceedings, and negotiated resolutions in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 contexts. His courtroom practice includes appearances in federal bankruptcy court and appellate matters in the Ninth Circuit.
He currently practices at Binder Malter Harris & Rome-Banks LLP, representing clients in bankruptcy and restructuring matters.
