About Raul
Raul Gonzalez built his legal foundation across two coasts. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Comparative Literature and Sociology from Columbia University in 2012. He later received his Juris Doctor from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco in 2018.
His early work was a mix of administrative and developmental roles inside legal education and law firms. In 2012 he served as Academic Records Coordinator at Loyola Law School. That administrative experience was followed by a stint in 2014 handling lawyer recruiting and professional development at Nossaman LLP. These positions gave him an inside view of how law offices and training programs are run.
While in law school, he spent time in the Social Enterprise & Economic Empowerment Clinic as a law clerk in 2017. There he engaged in clinic projects tied to social enterprise and economic empowerment, gaining exposure to transactional and policy issues that affect mission-driven organizations.
After completing his J.D., he joined Latham & Watkins as an associate in 2018. He has remained there since, working as part of a large-firm team on client matters. Working at a full-service firm has exposed him to complex transactions and cross-disciplinary legal questions. Colleagues describe him as methodical in his approach to research and careful in drafting documents and agreements.
Gonzalez became a member of the California State Bar in 2018 and maintains that membership. He practices under California jurisdiction and continues to balance the procedural demands of firm practice with the policy-minded thinking he first encountered in the clinic.
His career path shows an interest in the institutional side of law—how organizations are built, staffed and governed—alongside traditional legal training. That combination informs how he handles client work: attention to detail, respect for internal processes, and an eye for the practical implications of legal choices. He lives and works in California and is active in his firm's associate community.
He currently practices at Latham & Watkins, representing clients on matters handled by the firm in California.
