About R. Mark

R. Mark Henry earned his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law, completing the degree in 1993. His law school years prepared him for a return to public life and a career in litigation. He combined classroom training with an early interest in municipal affairs that had already carried him into local government in the 1980s.

Before law school, Henry served as a city commissioner for the City of Dayton in 1984. That period in public service gave him practical experience in local government operations and public decision-making. The role is a touchstone in his biography and informs how he approaches legal problems that touch public institutions.

After earning his law degree, Henry joined Thompson Hine LLP as a litigation associate in 1993. He spent his early years in private practice doing courtroom and case-preparation work. That time at a larger firm shaped his handling of procedural issues and case management. It also provided experience in federal and state practice, consistent with his admissions to courts in Ohio, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the Southern District of Ohio.

In 1996 he established his own practice, serving as managing owner of R. Mark Henry, Lawyer at Law. Running a small firm required him to shift between advocacy and business responsibilities. He oversaw client intake, case strategy and the administrative duties that keep a law office functioning. Those years have given him a long view of what it takes to maintain an independent practice over decades.

Henry maintains membership in the Dayton Bar Association. He has kept ties to the local legal community and to colleagues across the region. That membership reflects an ongoing presence in Dayton’s legal circles rather than sporadic or distant ties.

Colleagues and clients know Henry for steady courtroom work and for a background that blends municipal experience and litigation practice. He has practiced in state and federal forums, and he understands the procedural differences each forum requires. His career path — from elected city office to associate at a national firm, then to managing his own firm — speaks to a mix of civic and professional experience.

He currently practices as managing owner of R. Mark Henry, Lawyer at Law, handling litigation matters and related legal work.
