About Philip A.

Philip A. Bareck built his legal foundation at the University of Illinois, where he earned a B.S. in 1988, and then at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1991. Those years set the practical and academic groundwork that would shape a long career in Illinois law. He moved from classroom study to courtroom practice in short order.

Soon after finishing law school, Bareck joined Katz, Friedman, Eisenstein, Johnson, Bareck & Bertuca in 1991 as a lawyer and partner. His name is part of the firm’s masthead, and he has spent most of his professional life there. The record shows sustained involvement in firm work over decades. Colleagues and clients have relied on him to handle complex casework and trial preparation, and he has remained at the firm through changing times in the legal market.

In 2017, Bareck returned to the academic setting as an adjunct professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology, teaching Workers Compensation Law. He brought practical courtroom experience into the classroom. Students encountered the procedural rules, case law and practical considerations that inform workers’ compensation practice. The appointment reflected an interest in translating daily practice into teachable material and in mentoring newer lawyers.

Bareck is admitted to practice in Illinois. He maintains memberships in the Illinois State Bar, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Workers Compensation Bar Association. He has used those affiliations to stay current on case law developments and legislative changes affecting injured workers and litigants. Participation in professional groups has also meant regular exposure to continuing legal education and peer discussion about evolving trial strategies.

Throughout his career, Bareck has worked on matters arising from workplace injury and civil litigation contexts. His classroom work and association memberships align with practice areas that emphasize statutory procedure, benefits disputes and contested hearings. He has focused his practice in the same state where he trained and continues to live professionally. Currently, he remains at Katz, Friedman, Eisenstein, Johnson, Bareck & Bertuca and practices workers’ compensation law and related civil litigation.
