About Peter

Peter Hansen earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Iowa in 1975. He returned to the same campus for law school and received his J.D. in 1979. Those years in Iowa’s academic environment set the stage for a long legal career rooted in Midwest practice.

After completing law school, Hansen established his practice in Iowa. Records show he has worked at Hansen Law Offices since 1985. Over the years he has handled a range of matters in state courts and cultivated a courtroom presence through jury and bench work.

Hansen maintains memberships in several professional organizations. He is a current member of the Des Moines County Bar Association and the Iowa State Bar Association. He also belongs to national groups: the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers, and the American Association for Justice. Those affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with peers and with professional developments in consumer bankruptcy and plaintiff-side litigation.

Much of Hansen’s work has centered on matters that affect individuals and small businesses. His association with the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers signals a regular handling of consumer bankruptcy filings and related state-law issues. At the same time, membership in plaintiff-oriented organizations indicates a practice that includes civil claims pursued on behalf of injured or aggrieved clients.

Within the office, Hansen has combined case intake, litigation, and client counseling. He has guided clients through the procedural steps of bankruptcy cases, from Chapter 7 filings to more complex Chapter 13 plans. In contested matters he has prepared pleadings, conducted discovery, and presented arguments in hearings. The office approach aims to balance the legal options available to a client against the practical realities each client faces.

Colleagues describe him as a steady presence in court and in client meetings. He has continued an active role in local legal life through bar association participation and by attending seminars and continuing legal education programs. That ongoing exposure to developments in bankruptcy law and civil procedure helps inform case strategy.

Hansen practices out of Hansen Law Offices in Iowa and is admitted to practice in the state. He currently focuses his practice on consumer bankruptcy and plaintiff-side civil litigation.
