About Peter E.

Peter E. Johnson built his academic foundation at the University of Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 2014. He returned to Creighton University School of Law to pursue both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Science in Government Organization and Leadership, completing those degrees in 2021. The dual graduate degrees gave him exposure to law and public administration at the same time.

Johnson entered public life while still in school. In 2020 he served as mayor of the City of Sidney, Iowa, a role he held during the final phase of his graduate studies. That experience put him inside municipal decision-making and local governance at a moment when he was also completing legal training.

During law school he spent time in Washington, D.C., as a legislative extern for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2021. The externship offered practical exposure to the legislative process and to how federal policy gets translated into law. After admission to the bar, he moved into county-level practice, taking on the position of County Lawyer for Fremont County, Iowa, in 2022.

Those positions shaped the early arc of his career. They combined elected municipal service, legislative work, and county legal practice. In those roles he handled municipal issues, advised local officials, and worked on matters that tied public policy to legal procedures. The mix of practice and public service has informed how he approaches disputes and client counseling.

Johnson maintains memberships in several professional organizations. He has been a member of the State Bar of Iowa since 2021 and also belongs to the Iowa Association for Justice. His participation in broader legal groups stretches back further; he joined the American Bar Association in 2019 and the Iowa State Bar Association in 2018. These affiliations reflect ongoing contact with both statewide and national professional networks.

He now practices from Johnson Law, PLC, operating in Iowa and serving municipal clients, counties and private parties. He is licensed to practice in Iowa and continues to handle matters that arise at the intersection of local government and civil law. His current practice centers on local government matters, public law and civil litigation in Iowa.
