About Paulette
Paulette Gray began her academic path in international affairs, earning a degree in International Relations from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 1991. She later turned to law, completing her Juris Doctor at The John Marshall Law School in 1996. Those formative years combined a global perspective with legal training, a pair of influences that would shape her professional life in Illinois.
After law school, Gray built a career grounded in family and matrimonial law. She became active in local and state bar organizations early on. Her leadership roles are notable: she served as Past President of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, led the McHenry County Bar Association as its Past President, and chaired the Family Law Section of the Illinois State Bar Association. She also holds membership in the Illinois Appellate Lawyers Association, maintaining ties to practitioners who handle appeals across the state.
Colleagues describe Gray as methodical and steady. She has steered committees and educational programs for lawyers on family law topics. Those roles placed her in the center of professional discussions about procedure, ethics, and the evolving standards that affect divorce and custody litigation. Her work in bar leadership has involved organizing CLE events, mentoring younger attorneys, and shaping section policies.
Gray has balanced organizational leadership with practice. At the same time she pursued association work she sustained a client practice in Illinois courts. Her practice has required navigating contested divorces, property division issues, custody disputes, and related family law matters. Membership in the appellate lawyers association indicates an awareness of appellate process, and her experience leading local and state sections suggests familiarity with both trial-level and broader legal issues that affect family law practitioners.
Today she is based at GRAY & GRAY LLC. There she continues to work with clients in Illinois. Her background in international relations and her lengthy engagement with bar associations inform how she approaches complex cases and institutional responsibilities. She maintains an active role in the professional community while serving clients through her firm. She now practices at GRAY & GRAY LLC, concentrating on matrimonial and family law matters in Illinois.
