About Paul
Paul Scott studied and stayed in Baton Rouge for his higher education. He earned a B.A. at Louisiana State University and then took two law degrees from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU, completing both a J.D. and a B.C.L. The combination of a traditional law degree and the civil law certificate reflects the Louisiana legal education tradition and the bilingual nature of the state’s legal heritage.
After law school he built a practice that spans state and federal work. He is licensed to practice in Louisiana and in Texas. He also holds admission to practice before the Fifth and Eleventh U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal. He belongs to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those memberships place him in communities that handle both immigration and criminal defense issues.
In 2008 he became a partner at The Scott Law Office. That step anchored his work in a firm that carries his name. He handles cases that begin in state courts and sometimes move into federal forums. His practice has involved courtroom appearances and appellate filings that rely on both criminal procedure and immigration law principles.
Clients see him on matters that intersect two separate systems. Immigration law and criminal law often overlap, and his background includes representation in removal proceedings, bond hearings, and criminal defense cases. He appears on behalf of individuals facing charges or immigration consequences and engages in plea negotiations, hearings and appeals when appropriate. He also advises on the potential immigration impact of criminal convictions and on strategies to preserve relief options.
Colleagues note that his training at the Hebert Law Center informs how he approaches statutory and constitutional questions. He frequently moves between trial-level advocacy and appellate briefing. That range of work reflects the dual nature of many cases where state convictions carry federal immigration consequences.
He practices from The Scott Law Office, where his caseload remains focused on matters that blend criminal defense and immigration law. He continues to represent clients in state courts, federal courts and before immigration authorities. His current practice focuses on immigration and criminal defense matters.
