About Paul Kenji
Paul Kenji Tomita is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1997. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Tomita is a co-founder of Staniford Tomita LLP, a law firm specializing in intellectual property law, located in Mill Valley, California. He has been practicing law for over 28 years, serving clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Mr. Tomita earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1996. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985. During his time at the University of San Francisco, he was involved in various legal clinics and externships, gaining practical experience in intellectual property law.
Mr. Tomita concentrates his practice in the areas of patent law, trademark law, and intellectual property litigation. He represents individuals and businesses in matters involving patent preparation and prosecution, infringement and invalidity analysis, and trademark registration and enforcement. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Tomita has handled cases in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has also appeared before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in various proceedings. Prior to founding Staniford Tomita LLP, he worked as a patent attorney for Nikon Research Corporation of America, gaining extensive experience in patent prosecution and litigation.
Mr. Tomita is an active member of the State Bar of California and the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association. He has served as an adjunct professor of patent law at the University of San Francisco School of Law, teaching patent law for the Entrepreneurial Ventures Legal Services Clinic. He is also an advisor, lecturer, and mentor for the Telluride Venture Accelerator and the Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Mr. Tomita is fluent in English and Japanese, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
