Paul Jeffrey Carter is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1997. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Carter is a partner at Bergkvist, Bergkvist & Carter, LLP, a law firm located in Long Beach, California. He has been practicing law for over twenty-eight years, serving clients throughout Southern California.
Mr. Carter earned his Juris Doctor degree from Drake University Law School in 1995, graduating with honors. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at California State University, Fullerton, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1992. During his time at CSUF, he was recognized on the Dean's List.
Mr. Carter concentrates his practice in civil litigation and business representation. He represents and defends clients in real estate, business, trust, employment, and personal injury matters, as well as related bankruptcy actions. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Carter has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in Century City for five years.
Mr. Carter is an active member of the Long Beach Bar Association, having served as its president in 2018. He is also a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Southern California Mediation Association. He has served as an arbitrator and mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court and has been involved in various community organizations, including the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation and the St. Mary Catholic Housing Corporation. Mr. Carter is fluent in English, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of Southern California effectively.
