About Patrick

Patrick Nelson built his path to the law from two Midwest classrooms. He graduated from Bradley University in 1996 with a B.S. in criminal justice and sociology. He then went on to earn a J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 1999. Those years shaped his approach to cases: steady, practical and grounded in procedure.

His legal career began in the late 1990s in Illinois. He became active in the state bar community soon after law school and has maintained that involvement for more than two decades. By 2010 he was a partner at the Law Office of J. Patrick Nelson, PC, the firm where he continues to work. The partnership title reflects years of courtroom work and client representation across a range of matters.

Colleagues describe him as exacting about court filings and attentive to deadlines. He has handled courtroom proceedings and client consultations for many years. He also serves in an appointed role in the county system: he is certified as a Guardian Ad Litem for DuPage County. That appointment has put him into juvenile and family court settings, conducting investigations and reporting to judges on the best interests of children.

Nelson has been involved in professional organizations since the start of his practice. He has been a member of the Illinois State Bar Association since 1999. He joined the DuPage County Bar Association in 2005 and remains active there. Those memberships have kept him connected to local practice rules and community resources. They have also provided a steady forum for continuing legal education and professional exchange.

Clients and other lawyers find his courtroom experience useful when cases move from negotiation to trial. He prepares witness lists, handles evidentiary matters and files necessary pleadings. He approaches those tasks with the sort of attention to detail that comes from years of practice rather than from rhetoric.

Outside the office he has remained tied to the DuPage County community through court appointments and local bar activities. He maintains his law license in Illinois and has practiced in the state for many years. He now works at The Law Office of J. Patrick Nelson, PC, where he represents clients and serves as a Guardian Ad Litem in DuPage County among other legal duties.
