About Patrick
Patrick Kunes studied history before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in history from the University of Georgia in 1999 and later took up legal studies at Georgia State University College of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2005. Those academic years combined an interest in history and public policy with practical legal training.
After law school he remained connected to academia for a time. In 2006 he worked as a graduate research assistant for SAIICA at Georgia State’s College of Law. That role exposed him to legal research projects and the kinds of procedural and evidentiary issues that often surface in criminal cases.
Kunes entered private practice in 2008 when he launched Kunes Law Office. He has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 2008. Over the years he built experience handling cases that often intersect with impaired driving and controlled-substance laws. Training and courtroom practice have been recurring features of his career.
He has pursued specialized training in areas relevant to everyday criminal defense work. He completed standardized field sobriety training through Ron Lloyd Enterprises and Tony Corroto’s program, and he graduated from the National College of DUI Defense Winter Session in 2014. He also completed the Bill Daniels Trial Advocacy Program offered by the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and attended a Georgia N.O.R.M.L. program on defending marijuana cases.
His professional affiliations reflect those interests. He has been a member of N.O.R.M.L. since 2008 and holds membership in its Legal Committee. From 2017 to 2019 he served as a regional vice president for the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. That period included work on local and regional issues facing criminal defense practitioners.
In practice Kunes handles matters commonly seen in state courts: DUI-related proceedings, contested sobriety evidence, and cases involving marijuana and other controlled substances. He blends courtroom experience, the specialized training he has pursued, and the procedural knowledge gained early in his career. He currently practices at Kunes Law Office in Georgia, focusing on DUI defense and criminal defense work.
