About Patrick J

Patrick J Weiland builds a career that bridges public service and private practice. He trained as a lawyer at Chicago-Kent College of Law, completing his J.D. in 1996 after earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point in 1994. Those classroom years set the stage for courtroom work that followed almost immediately.

Fresh out of law school, he joined the DuPage County State's Lawyer's Office as an assistant state's lawyer in 1996. That early experience placed him in the daily grind of prosecutorial decision-making and courtroom preparation. He handled motions, developed cases for trial, and learned how to read a jury. The role gave him a foundation in trial procedure and an understanding of how local prosecutors operate.

By 2005 he had taken on dual roles. He became a village prosecutor for the City of Downers Grove, representing the municipality in local matters. That same year he also took on a leadership role in private practice as senior partner at Dolci & Weiland. The move into partnership marked a shift toward running a practice and managing client matters, while keeping regular courtroom appearances in his schedule.

Outside the courtroom, he has maintained steady ties to the local legal community. He has been a member of the DuPage County Bar Association since 1997. In 2016 he was listed among The National Trial Lawyers’ Top 100 Criminal Trial Lawyers and has retained that membership since. Those affiliations reflect continuing engagement with trial practitioners and professional networks in the region.

Colleagues and clients see a lawyer who has handled both sides of criminal cases. His background includes municipal prosecution and county-level prosecutorial work, followed by years in private practice that emphasized courtroom representation. He carries the procedural knowledge gained in public office into trial preparation for private clients. His practice has regularly involved hearings, plea negotiations, and bench and jury trials.

Weiland maintains an office presence in the Chicago area and practices through the firm Dolci & Weiland. He practices in Illinois and appears in state courts where his prior public-service roles and ongoing private practice intersect. He concentrates on criminal trial work and related courtroom representation in Illinois.
