Mr. Gunn earned his Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law, where he graduated in 1994. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of Colorado at Boulder, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs in 1990. During his time at Boston University, he was recognized for his academic achievements and commitment to the legal profession.
Mr. Gunn concentrates his practice in the areas of complex litigation and dispute resolution, with a particular focus on business and commercial litigation, securities litigation, and real estate dispute resolution. He represents companies and individuals in high-stakes disputes, including commercial contract litigation, shareholder derivative actions, trade secret matters, and partnership disputes. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Gunn has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of San Francisco, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the United States District Court for the Southern District of California and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Prior to joining Goodwin Procter in 2024, he was a partner at Cooley LLP, where he served as head of the firm's 250-lawyer business litigation group from 2016 to 2021.
Mr. Gunn is an active member of the American Bar Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Commercial Litigation since 2023 and has been honored by Benchmark Litigation and The Daily Journal for top defense verdicts. He is fluent in English and has a working knowledge of Spanish, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
