About Patrick Charles
Patrick Charles Barthet was a prominent construction attorney based in Miami, Florida. Admitted to the Florida Bar in 1980, he dedicated over four decades to the legal profession. In 1995, he founded The Barthet Firm, located at 200 South Biscayne Boulevard, Suite 1650, Miami, Florida 33131. The firm quickly gained recognition for its expertise in construction law, particularly in areas such as construction contract disputes, liens, and bond claims. Under Patrick’s leadership, the firm became a trusted resource for clients navigating complex legal challenges in the construction industry. Born in Malta, Patrick immigrated to the United States at the age of seven.
He grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where he developed a strong work ethic and a focus on education. While attending Fordham University, he met his future wife, Rebecca. After graduating, he became an English teacher in New York City, furthering his commitment to education and communication. He pursued a Master’s degree in English at New York University, enhancing his skills in writing and analysis. In 1979, he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami, laying the foundation for his successful legal career. Before establishing The Barthet Firm, Patrick held various roles in the construction industry.
He worked as a project manager and builder, gaining firsthand experience that would inform his legal practice. Additionally, he served as a firm administrator at a prestigious law firm in Downtown Miami, where he eventually became a shareholder and senior partner. In 1985, he developed a paralegal certification program that was licensed and sold to several universities, demonstrating his commitment to legal education and professional development. In addition to his legal practice, Patrick was appointed Honorary Consul of Malta in 2008, reflecting his dedication to serving his community and fostering international relations. He founded the Miami Construction Forum in 2015, a monthly series designed for industry professionals to share insights and best practices. Known for his persuasive legal filings, Patrick authored numerous articles in trade and legal journals, contributing to the broader discourse on construction law.
He also curated the firm’s quarterly newsletter, Key Issues, showcasing his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to keeping clients informed. Patrick passed away on July 18, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to his clients and the construction industry. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, clients, and friends, all of whom are grateful for the extra years they had with him. A private service was held with his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to The Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida, a nonprofit organization where Patrick served on the board of directors for many years. Throughout his career, Patrick exemplified dedication and leadership, leaving a lasting impact on the legal community in Miami and beyond.
