About Patrick A.
Patrick A. Twisdale took an uncommon academic route into law. He earned multiple science and humanities degrees from East Carolina University, completing bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry, biology, chemistry and philosophy in 2017. He then attended Washington and Lee University School of Law and received his J.D. in 2020. The combination of technical coursework and legal training underpins the work he does today.
After law school he spent time in private practice and in university research administration. He worked at MacCord Mason, PLLC in 2019 and returned there briefly in 2020. During the same year he served in the Office of Research Commercialization at North Carolina State University, handling matters that intersected technology transfer and intellectual property. In 2021 he joined King Law Offices, PLLC, where he remains on the roster.
Twisdale is admitted to practice in North Carolina and South Carolina. He is also licensed to appear before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina and is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Those credentials reflect both state-level and federal practice permissions relevant to patent and litigation work.
His early career choices reflect an alignment between science and law. The undergraduate degrees provided a technical foundation that is often required for work in patent prosecution and counseling. At NC State’s research office he handled issues that involved moving academic inventions toward the marketplace. At private firms he assisted clients on patent-related matters and other intellectual property questions.
Professional affiliations mirror that mix of interests. He has been a member of the Buncombe County Bar since 2021 and joined the American Intellectual Property Law Association in 2020. These memberships place him in forums where local practice rules and national IP policy meet.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in approaching technical problems and careful in building application files. He has experience drafting patent applications and advising inventors and small businesses on protection strategies. His background in the natural sciences informs how he evaluates inventions and prepares written submissions to the patent office.
He is based at King Law Offices, PLLC and handles matters that draw on both his legal training and scientific background. He currently practices in patent prosecution, client counseling on intellectual property, and related IP matters.
