He studied organizational development and communication at Regis University, earning a B.A. in 2003. He later enrolled at the University of Denver, completing his J.D. in 2011. Those years bridged two fields that recur in his work: business structures and the rules that govern them.
After law school he launched The Law Offices of Owen Hathaway and assumed the role of managing attorney in 2011. Building a solo practice meant handling both the legal work and the business tasks that keep a small firm running. The office handled a mix of transactional matters and counsel work, reflecting Hathaway’s interest in how legal advice fits into broader organizational decisions.
In 2014 Hathaway took on an expanded professional profile when he joined Hammock Equity Corporation. He serves there as general counsel and principal, and he also holds the title of chief technology officer. Those dual responsibilities place him at the intersection of legal strategy and technology operations. In practice that has meant advising on corporate governance, contracts, and technology-related business issues while also participating in internal technology planning and implementation.
Hathaway is licensed to practice in Colorado and maintains professional memberships. He has combined his academic background in organizational development with legal training to advise clients who operate small businesses, startups, and other corporate entities. His work often requires translating technical and operational concerns into legal terms that executives and boards can act on.
