About Onik
Onik Ovanesian built his legal foundation in Southern California. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2014 with a double major in Political Science and English and a minor in Conflict Resolution. He earned his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 2017.
His early legal years combined courtroom exposure and clerkship work. In 2015 he served as a judicial extern to the Honorable David V. Herriford at the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. The following year he worked in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office as a certified law clerk in the Preliminary Hearings Unit and as a senior law clerk in the Central Trials Unit. Those roles placed him inside the courtroom on preliminary matters and trial preparations.
After law school he held several positions that furthered his practical experience. In 2017 he worked as a law clerk at the Law Offices of Kaplan, Kenegos, & Kadin and served as a fellow with the American Board of Trial Advocates. That same year he joined Cheong, Denove, Rowell & Bennett as an associate lawyer. His resume shows steady exposure to litigation workflows, courtroom procedure and the mechanics of trial practice.
Ovanesian has maintained active engagement in local bar and specialty associations. He became a member of the Los Angeles Bar Association and the Consumer Lawyers Association of Los Angeles in 2017. In 2017 he also joined the Armenian Bar Association. Two years later he expanded his involvement to include the Italian American Bar Association and the Century City Bar Association, memberships he continues to hold. These affiliations suggest an effort to stay connected with peers across a range of practice areas and community ties.
Colleagues describe him as someone who accumulated hands-on courtroom experience early in his career. The mix of district attorney clerkship work and post-graduate positions provided repeated opportunities to observe evidentiary hearings, motions practice and trial preparation. His time as a judicial extern also offered a judicial perspective on case management and decision-making processes.
He practices at Cheong, Denove, Rowell & Bennett, where his work builds on the litigation and trial experience he gathered in public and private roles. He continues to handle litigation and trial matters in his current practice.
