About Omar
Omar Khan graduated from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law after completing a Bachelor of Arts in economics at the University of Dayton. He entered law school intent on practical courtroom work. His academic background combined law and economics, and he carried that perspective into early public-service roles.
After law school he served as a law clerk to the Hon. J. Edward Prochaska in the 17th Judicial Circuit in 2014. The clerkship gave him a front-row view of trial procedure and judicial decision-making. In 2015 he joined the Winnebago County State's Lawyer’s Office as an Assistant State’s Lawyer. There he handled prosecutorial responsibilities and gained courtroom experience on behalf of the state.
In 2017 Khan moved into private practice as a partner at Khan Nayyar & Associates, LLC. The transition took him from a public-prosecutorial role into work on matters that increasingly involved immigration law and related federal proceedings. As a partner he manages litigation and case strategy, supervises junior attorneys, and appears in immigration hearings and federal forums when cases require it.
Khan maintains a range of professional memberships. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association. He belongs to the American Immigration Lawyers Association at both the national level and the Chicago chapter, and he participates in the Chicago UPL Committee. He also holds membership in the Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association and the Winnebago County Bar Association. Those affiliations reflect the two strands of his career: time spent in prosecution and ongoing work in immigration and federal matters.
Peers describe him as methodical in court and attentive to procedural detail. He has applied the courtroom skills developed during his clerkship and prosecutorial work to private practice, where administrative hearings, federal filings, and client counseling are frequent parts of the docket. He continues to split his time between courtroom advocacy and case management at Khan Nayyar & Associates, LLC, where he practices immigration law and related federal matters.
