About Norvik
Norvik Azarian entered law after a straightforward academic path. He earned a B.A. in economics from the University of California, Irvine in 2015, then moved to Los Angeles for law school. He completed his J.D. at Loyola Law School in 2018.
Early in law school he sought practical courtroom experience. In 2017 he served as a judicial extern at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. That same year he worked as a certified law student in Loyola Law School’s Ninth Circuit Appellate Clinic, gaining hands-on exposure to appellate procedure and brief drafting. He also spent time as a research assistant to Professor Aaron Caplan and returned to the Hartounian Law Office as a law clerk in 2017, after an earlier clerkship there in 2013.
Those formative roles shaped a pragmatic approach to legal work. Azarian moved into firm practice after graduation. In 2019 he joined Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, LLP as an associate. The position exposed him to the day-to-day responsibilities of firm litigation and client counseling. In 2022 he became an associate at Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP.
Across these positions he developed experience in legal research, appellate writing and the demands of litigation practice in California courts. His appellate clinic and Ninth Circuit externship gave him particular familiarity with federal appellate filings and standards of review. On the ground at firms, he has handled drafting, motions practice and case preparation that support trial and appellate teams.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in his approach to casework and precise in written advocacy. He has combined academic research duties with courtroom-facing roles, a mix that shows in careful briefs and organized case files. His work has been rooted in the jurisdictions where he has practiced, principally California.
Azarian’s trajectory is steady and practical: law school clinic and externship experience, early clerkships, then associate roles at regional and national firms. He continues to practice in California, currently serving as an associate at Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP and practicing in California courts.
