About Norman

Norman Ankers graduated from the University of Michigan in 1976 with a B.A. in Political Science and Government. He continued his studies at Harvard Law School and received his J.D. in 1979. Those years set the stage for a long career in Michigan law.

He was admitted to the Michigan bar in 1979 and has maintained membership in the State Bar of Michigan since then. Early in his career he built experience in private practice and community legal work. Over time he moved into roles that combined practice, teaching and professional leadership.

Ankers joined Foley & Lardner LLP and was named a partner in 2016. That position followed decades of practice and periodic returns to the classroom. He has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (2005) and at the University of Michigan Law School (2012). Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who stays engaged with legal education while practicing.

He has been active in bar and local legal organizations. Ankers has served on the Oakland County Bar Association Professionalism Committee and is listed as a past chairman while remaining involved. He has retained continuous membership in the State Bar of Michigan since 1979, a sign of sustained participation in the state's legal community.

Across his roles as partner, teacher and committee chair, Ankers has focused on applying practical legal judgment in matters arising under Michigan law. His partner role at Foley & Lardner LLP places him in a firm environment that handles corporate and litigation matters, and his adjunct teaching work reflects an interest in training younger lawyers. He remains licensed and active in Michigan and devotes his current practice to representing clients and mentoring other attorneys in the state.
