About Nicole A.

Nicole A. Westbrook trained as a scientist before she trained as a lawyer. She earned a B.S. from the University of Wyoming in 1995 and returned to school for law at Vanderbilt University Law School, completing her J.D. in 2002. Those years shaped a methodical approach to legal questions and a comfort with complex factual records.

Her early legal position came in the federal courts. In 2003 she served as a law clerk to the Hon. Alia Moses of the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. That clerkship put her in the thick of federal litigation, exposing her to motion practice, evidentiary issues and the pace of trial-court decisionmaking. The experience also provided a foundation for appellate work later in her career.

Westbrook moved into private practice after her clerkship. By 2014 she had become a shareholder at Jones & Keller, P.C. At the firm she took on responsibilities that combined casework, client counseling and oversight of younger attorneys. The shareholder role required both courtroom experience and management of complex matters across multiple forums.

Her admissions include the Colorado bar and the appellate bars of the Tenth and Seventh Circuits. Those credentials reflect regular practice in federal courts and appeals. Over time she has litigated in district courts and handled filings and arguments before circuit panels, drawing on the procedural knowledge she gained early in her career.

Colleagues describe Westbrook as deliberate in preparation and direct in court. She approaches each matter by breaking it into discrete legal and factual questions. The result is work that is organized and aimed at clear advocacy rather than flourish. That style suits federal dockets and appellate briefing, where precision matters.

Outside of hearings and briefs she spends time mentoring junior lawyers at the firm. She has supervised research assignments and edited briefs heading to trial and appeal. Those responsibilities are part of the shareholder role she has occupied since 2014 and they reflect a steady practice path from clerkship to firm leadership.

As of 2026 she continues to practice at Jones & Keller, P.C., handling matters in federal court and before the Tenth and Seventh Circuit courts of appeals, and managing aspects of firm practice related to litigation and appellate work. Her current practice focuses on federal litigation and appellate proceedings.
