Nicholas Watts Gebelt is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2001. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Gebelt is the owner of the Law Offices of Nicholas Gebelt, a firm located in Whittier, California. He has been practicing law for over 25 years, serving clients throughout Southern California.
Mr. Gebelt earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2001. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of Washington, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1983. He furthered his studies at the University of Washington, obtaining a Master of Arts in Mathematics in 1986. Mr. Gebelt also holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles, earned in 1992. During his time at UVA, he was a member of the Virginia Journal of Law & Technology editorial board.
Mr. Gebelt concentrates his practice in the areas of bankruptcy law, including Chapters 7, 11, and 13, as well as bankruptcy litigation and business law. He represents individuals, married couples, and small businesses, assisting them in navigating complex bankruptcy proceedings. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. He is a Certified Bankruptcy Specialist, certified by the State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization.
Throughout his career, Mr. Gebelt has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in Century City for five years. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Gebelt is an active member of the Southern California Bankruptcy Inn of Court, the Central District Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Association, the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum, the Inland Empire Bankruptcy Forum, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the Federal Bar Association, and the Whittier Bar Association, where he served as president in 2010. He is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of Southern California effectively.
