About Nicholas R

Nicholas R. Leverson studied history at the University of Saint Thomas before turning to law at William Mitchell College of Law. He earned his B.A. in 2010 and later completed his J.D. in 2014, where he concentrated on criminal law and procedure. The academic thread—history followed by criminal law—sets out a clear intellectual arc: an interest in how events unfold and in the rules that govern consequences.

Early in his career Leverson moved into practice in Minnesota. His legal training placed him squarely in the criminal justice field. He built experience handling pretrial matters, motion practice, and courtroom appearances. Colleagues describe him as steady in court and attentive to the procedural details that often shape case outcomes.

Leverson maintains current memberships in professional associations that serve Minnesota lawyers. He is admitted to practice in Minnesota and is listed as a lawyer with the Minnesota State Bar. That standing underpins the work he does each day: advising clients who face criminal charges, contesting evidence, and negotiating plea resolutions when appropriate. He takes the procedural foundations he learned in law school and applies them to contemporary casework.

Throughout his practice Leverson has worked on a range of criminal matters. He handles arraignments and pretrial hearings, files motions to challenge evidence, and represents clients at trial when cases proceed that far. His background in criminal procedure informs how he approaches discovery and motions practice. He also advises clients on the collateral consequences of criminal charges, including licensing and employment issues that can follow a conviction.

At Leverson Budke, PLLP he works alongside other attorneys and staff to manage case loads and client communications. The firm environment allows for collaboration on complex cases and coordinated strategy for litigation. Leverson’s role at the firm involves courtroom representation as well as client counseling, balancing attention to immediate legal questions with planning for longer-term consequences.

Outside the courtroom he continues to follow developments in Minnesota criminal law and procedure. Changes in statutory sentencing, court rules, and evidence law affect how cases are handled, and he adjusts practice priorities as those changes take hold. He also mentors newer attorneys in practical aspects of trial preparation and courtroom practice.

He currently practices at Leverson Budke, PLLP, representing clients in criminal defense and related matters in Minnesota.
