About Nicholas
Nicholas Braswell built a legal path that began in the classroom and moved steadily into courtrooms. He earned a B.A. in Political Science from North Carolina A&T State University in 2008, then completed his J.D. at the University of Richmond School of Law in 2011. Those years framed his early interest in trial work and public defense.
He started his career in public service. In 2013 he joined the Office of the Public Defender as an assistant public defender. He handled a wide range of cases for clients who could not afford private counsel. Two years later he advanced to supervising assistant public defender, taking on additional responsibility for case oversight and mentoring newer attorneys. That period sharpened his practical skills at trial and in managing a docket of contested matters.
In 2016 Braswell moved into private practice when he worked as a lawyer at Price Benowitz LLP. That firm experience broadened his exposure to different litigation styles and client expectations. It also gave him a sense of how defense work in private practice differs from public defense, especially when it comes to resource allocation and case strategy.
He now practices under the name Nicholas Braswell Lawyer at Law. His practice draws on years of courtroom work and supervision in public defense, along with time spent at a litigation firm. Those experiences inform how he evaluates cases, prepares clients, and approaches negotiations. Colleagues note his steady courtroom presence and practical approach to case preparation.
Outside of court, Braswell’s legal background is rooted in his academic training and the hands-on work he did early in his career. He has worked with clients across a range of matters that often require quick thinking and careful management of evidence. He also brings experience in supervising other lawyers, which affects how he staffs cases and plans trials.
He maintains an office under his own name and accepts matters that align with his experience in criminal defense and trial litigation. He continues to handle cases that require courtroom advocacy and practical case management. His current practice focuses on litigation and defense work handled through his firm, Nicholas Braswell Lawyer at Law.
