About Nicholas A.
Nicholas A. Sarcone studied political science and history at Saint Louis University, earning a B.A. in 2000. He went on to law school at the University of Iowa, receiving his J.D. in 2007. Those years set the technical groundwork for a career that has moved between federal clerkships, public defense and private practice.
Early in his legal training Sarcone worked as a law clerk for federal public defenders. In 2005 he clerked in the Northern District of California and the following year he took a clerkship in the Southern District of Iowa. After finishing law school he began his professional practice in Florida. In 2007 he served as an assistant public defender in Hillsborough County in Tampa. That role placed him in courtrooms and client meetings at a fast pace.
He next entered private practice as an associate in 2008. He joined Stowers Law Office as an associate in 2010 and became a partner when the firm expanded into Stowers & Sarcone, PLC in 2013. In 2021 he left that partnership to open Sarcone Law Office, PLC and two years later he formed Babich Sarcone, where he is listed as a lawyer and owner. His work has spanned both state and federal venues.
Sarcone maintains admissions in Iowa, the Eighth Circuit and Florida. His professional memberships reflect sustained involvement in criminal defense circles. He has been part of the Iowa Association for Justice’s Criminal Core Group since 2014 and has served as vice chair of that group since 2018. He holds membership in the Iowa Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers at the executive level and is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, both since 2008. He is also listed as a member of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in Iowa since 2014.
Colleagues and opponents see a lawyer who has moved steadily from training roles into courtroom practice and firm ownership. He has combined federal clerkships and public defense experience with years in private practice, including partnership and firm leadership. Today he is based at Babich Sarcone and continues to represent clients in matters arising in the jurisdictions where he is admitted. His current practice focuses on criminal defense and trial work in state and federal courts.
