About Neil Steven

Neil Steven Rockind began his academic path at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he completed general studies in 1987. He went on to study law at Wayne State Law School. Those years set the stage for a career split between public service and criminal defense work.

Early in his career Rockind served as an Assistant Prosecuting Lawyer in the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. He held that role beginning in 1993. That experience placed him in courtrooms and in charge of prosecutorial decision-making. It also provided a practical grounding in trial work that would inform his later practice.

Rockind is admitted to practice in Michigan and before the 6th Circuit. He joined the State Bar of Michigan in 1993 and remains a member. Over time he has maintained ties to several professional organizations related to criminal law. Those memberships include the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Criminal Defense Lawyers of Michigan. He is listed with the National Trial Lawyers Association under its Top 100 designation. He also serves on the board of the Marijuana Patients Organization.

His professional choices reflect an attorney who has moved between roles inside and outside government. The prosecutorial background gives him one perspective on criminal cases. His later affiliations and board role show engagement with issues that touch on criminal justice and policy, particularly around cannabis and patient advocacy.

Rockind’s practice has involved courtroom litigation and representation across the state and in federal appellate settings within the 6th Circuit. He draws on trial experience gained early on and sustained involvement in criminal defense circles. That combination shapes how he approaches cases today.

As of 2026 he continues active participation in the bar and in various legal associations. He maintains a practice that handles criminal matters in Michigan and cases that may proceed to the 6th Circuit, and he remains involved with organizations focused on criminal defense and patient advocacy.
