About Ned
Ned Barnett studied business and law in Texas. He earned a B.B.A. from The University of Texas School of Law and later a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center. Those academic years shaped his approach to criminal practice and courtroom procedure. The combination of business training and legal education shows in how he frames cases and pursues evidence.
Barnett began his career in public service. In 1988 he served as an Assistant District Lawyer in the Galveston County Criminal District Lawyer's Office. A few years later, in 1991, he worked as an Assistant United States Lawyer at the United States Lawyer's Office. Those roles placed him on both sides of major criminal prosecutions. He handled investigations, prepared charges, and gained early trial experience that would inform his later defense work.
After leaving government work, Barnett moved into private practice. He established The Law Offices of Ned Barnett and has practiced under that banner since. He has litigated in state and federal courts and holds admissions to the Texas bar, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. That range of admissions allows him to take cases through multiple appellate levels when necessary.
His practice has an emphasis on criminal defense and DUI matters. He is a founding member of the National College for DUI Defense and of the American Association of Premier DUI Lawyers. He also maintains memberships in several professional organizations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association, and the Houston Trial Lawyers Association. He holds recognition from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in criminal law and participates in organizations that address child abuse defense issues.
Colleagues describe Barnett as a lawyer who draws on courtroom experience and prosecutorial perspective. He has pursued trial work and appeals, and he has represented clients at various stages of criminal proceedings. His time in public offices gave him exposure to prosecutorial strategies and courtroom procedure, which he applies when defending clients in both misdemeanor and felony matters.
Outside the courtroom, Barnett has stayed active in local bar groups. He is a member of the Houston Bar Association, the Galveston County Bar Association, and the Montgomery County Bar Association. He also participates in national defense organizations that concentrate on DUI and criminal defense law.
Barnett currently practices at The Law Offices of Ned Barnett, handling criminal and DUI defense matters across trial and appellate courts. His current practice focuses on criminal defense and DUI representation.
