About Nathan A.
Nathan A. Barnes entered law school after earning a bachelor’s degree in Prelaw Studies from Pensacola Christian College in 2005. He completed his J.D. at Valparaiso University School of Law in 2009. Those years established the foundation for a career spent largely in Midwestern practice.
After law school Mr. Barnes began his professional career at Doran Blackmond Norton, LLC in 2010. He worked there in the early stages of his practice, gaining exposure to the daily demands of courtroom preparation and client counseling. In 2015 he joined the Law Office of S. Eric Marshall, where he expanded his responsibilities and handled a broader docket of matters.
In 2017 he opened his own firm, Nathan A. Barnes, LLC. Running a solo practice gave him a direct view of case management, billing, and the business side of legal work. That period also meant direct client intake and one-on-one representation across a range of issues handled by a small firm.
Mr. Barnes moved back into firm practice in 2019 when he joined May Oberfell Lorber as a senior associate. His role there has involved collaboration on litigation and transactional matters alongside other attorneys at the firm. The transition from solo practitioner to senior associate provided a contrast in practice styles and a chance to work on larger, multi-attorney engagements.
He is admitted to practice in Indiana and Michigan. He also holds registration as a mediator in the State of Indiana, allowing him to serve in neutral dispute-resolution roles. The combination of courtroom work and mediation experience informs how he approaches client disputes and settlement opportunities.
Professionally he maintains memberships in the Indiana State Bar Association, the Michigan State Bar Association, and the St. Joseph County Bar Association. Those associations connect him to resources and continuing legal education in both states where he is licensed.
Across private practice, solo practice, and firm work, Mr. Barnes has built a career rooted in hands-on legal work and dispute resolution. Since 2019 he has been based at May Oberfell Lorber, where he continues to practice as a lawyer and registered mediator. He currently focuses his practice on matters handled through May Oberfell Lorber and ongoing mediation services.
