About Nancy W.
Nancy W. Green followed an unconventional path into the law. She began her academic career at California Polytechnic University, earning a B.S. in Social Science in 1965, then took a deeper interest in political structures at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she completed an M.A. in Political Science in 1967. More than a decade later she returned to legal studies, receiving her J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in 1979. She later added an LL.M. in Taxation from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1991.
After earning her law degree in 1979, Green entered private practice and built a steady legal career through the 1980s and into the 1990s. The advanced tax degree she obtained in 1991 shaped the trajectory of her work thereafter. Over the years she handled matters that required translating complex tax rules into practical advice for clients. Her background in political science and social science has informed how she frames legal problems and explains technical issues to nonlawyers.
Green’s work has combined advisory and transactional tasks. She has counseled individuals, families and small businesses on tax compliance and planning. She has also assisted in drafting documents and structuring transactions where tax consequences were an important consideration. Those who have worked with her describe a careful approach to legal analysis and an emphasis on clarity when dealing with technical subjects.
Outside of client work, Green pursued continuing education to keep current with changes in tax law. Her LL.M. coursework provided deep exposure to federal tax principles, and she kept that training at the center of her practice. In later years, she used that knowledge to handle tax research and to prepare written opinions where needed. She continues to accept engagements that turn on tax rules and regulatory interpretation.
She currently concentrates her practice on tax law and related matters.
