About Nancy
Nancy Martinez built her legal foundation at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a B.A. in history in 1996. She went on to receive her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2003. Those years framed an interest in how law intersects with everyday family life and municipal systems.
She began her legal career in support roles at several large firms. In 2000 she worked as a paralegal at Zelle, Hofmann, Voelbel, Mason & Gette, LLP. She later took paralegal positions at McDermott, Will & Emery in 2005 and served as a senior paralegal at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP in 2007. Those early positions exposed her to the operations of high-volume legal practices and the demands of litigation support.
Martinez moved into client-facing and pro bono work in the late 2000s. She volunteered as a pro bono lawyer for the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County in 2008. The next year she joined the Law Offices of Oliver R. Gutierrez as of counsel. In 2011 she opened her own firm, the Law Offices of Nancy M. Martinez, and has managed that practice since then.
Her membership in local bar sections reflects her practice interests. She has belonged to the San Mateo County Bar Association Family Law Section since 2010 and holds membership in the Santa Clara County Bar Association Family Law Section from the same year. Those affiliations place her among the small, local networks that handle custody, support and dissolution matters across the two counties.
Her background includes work inside larger firms and independent practice. That combination informs how she approaches case preparation and client communication. She has represented clients through negotiation and courtroom proceedings and handles the documentation and procedural work that family law generates. Colleagues describe her as methodical in preparing files and straightforward when explaining options to clients.
Outside the office she has continued ties to the Bay Area legal community through bar section activities. She maintains a practice that serves clients in family law matters and often handles cases involving divorce, child custody and support. She currently practices family law at the Law Offices of Nancy M. Martinez.
