About Nam

Nam Kim earned his law degree from The University of Chicago Law School in 2012 after completing undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated in 2006 with a B.A. in Political Science and Mass Communications. That combination of disciplines gave him a foundation in both legal analysis and the ways information moves through public and private channels.

He practices in California and is part of the team at Fenwick & West LLP. His career path took him from a rigorous academic environment into one of the firms that serves a wide range of clients doing business in technology and other sectors. At Fenwick, he works with colleagues on matters that require familiarity with state law and the regulatory landscape facing businesses operating in California.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and precise. He approaches problems by mapping the factual record and then testing legal theories against that map. That method of working is shaped by his years at the University of Chicago, where argument and careful textual reading are central to classroom life. It is also informed by his undergraduate study of political science and mass communications, subjects that emphasize how rules and messaging influence public choices.

Throughout his career he has handled matters that require clear written work and practical legal judgment. He drafts documents, advises on compliance questions, and helps clients understand the immediate legal risks they face. He spends time both in client-facing settings and on internal team work, balancing the need for accessible explanations with the technical precision that complex legal matters often demand.

Outside of case files and contract drafts he has maintained an interest in the intersection of law and public discourse. That interest shows up in the way he frames client advisories and in the questions he raises during transactional planning. It is a through-line from his undergraduate major to his current legal work.

Nam Kim joined Fenwick & West LLP after law school and has continued to build his practice in California. He remains active in matters that arise under state law and in advising businesses that operate in or are regulated by California authorities. He currently practices at Fenwick & West LLP, handling legal matters for clients operating in California.
