About Nadine

Nadine Bertman earned her J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 2008. She arrived in the legal world after law school with courtroom experience and clinic work on her résumé. Her early training combined private firm exposure and hands-on public defense internship placements.

Her first post-law school role was as a law clerk at Moran Wong & Keller, PLLC in 2008. That position exposed her to the daily mechanics of litigation and client counseling in a small firm setting. In 2010 she returned to clinical and county work as a Rule 9 intern for both the Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel in Tacoma and the Ronald A. Peterson Clinic's Youth Advocacy Clinic at Seattle University School of Law. Those internships placed her inside courtrooms and client meetings, often representing young people and low-income clients in misdemeanor and juvenile matters.

Bertman moved into a staff role at the Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel in 2011, serving in the Misdemeanor Unit. There she handled a steady docket of misdemeanor cases arising in Tacoma and surrounding jurisdictions. The county role required courtroom readiness, plea negotiations, and day-to-day client advocacy for people facing short-term criminal charges.

In 2012 she joined Beckwith Law as an associate lawyer. At Beckwith she continued to work on criminal matters while also gaining experience in case management and office practice common to private firms. Her background includes both appointed public defense work and private practice, giving her experience on different sides of the criminal justice process.

Bertman is admitted to practice in Washington and is certified to appear in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. She holds memberships in the Washington Defender Association and the Tacoma Pierce Bar Association starting in 2012. She has been a member of the King County Bar Association and the Washington State Bar Association since 2011.

Colleagues describe her as steady in court and attentive to procedural detail. She has handled misdemeanor dockets, juvenile clinic matters, and federal court appearances tied to local cases. Her practice history shows a steady orientation toward criminal defense and client representation in lower-level criminal matters, shaped by both public defender work and private firm responsibilities.

She practices in Washington and maintains federal court certification for the Western District of Washington. Her current practice focuses on misdemeanor defense and related criminal matters in Washington state.
